What does John mean when he says “walk in the light as he is in the light”? (1 John 1:7) Or what does it mean to “do the truth and come to the light, that your deeds may be clearly seen”? (John 3:21) We are ‘children of light’ so we should walk as children of light, right?  Is this an abstract thought or a practical lifestyle?  Walking in the light; living in the light; coming to the light; all of these things are the most basic elements of our Christian faith.  We know God is light and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5) This is not an abstract thought to explore in connecting people with their higher selves, but it is the most practical, raw, vulnerable lifestyle we could ever practice.

If you study 1 John 1 you will see that walking in the light is not about sinless perfection or even a lifestyle of holiness, though holiness is important.  It is about living a lifestyle of confession and honesty before God.  Walking in the light is bringing your filth, your bad habits, your guilty conscience, your mistakes, even the things you like about yourself to Jesus Christ and getting honest about who you really are. At Calvary Chapel Bible College Seattle, you can get real and open with God, and bring whatever you are and whatever you are not into the light daily. Look at life honestly, come to God sincerely, and serve God wholly. This is my prayer.
